2.Cultivars of rare fruit

Non traditional or alternative fruit crops are characterized by resistance to both abiotic and biotic factors of an environment and valuable biochemical composition of fruits. They pawn a basis for an organic horticulture without of agricultural chemicals. Now a new fruit plants are promising not only for the amateur but also for industrial growing. Also this trees and shrubs as ornamental plants are very beautiful in both flowering and fruit-bearing.

I carry out the breeding programs to develop my favorable crop - chaenomeles, or Japanese quinces, and also sea buckthorn, cornelian cherry, hawthorn, rowan and service tree, sorbaronia, nashi, service berry, peach, both Bessey and Manchu cherry, cherry elaeagnus, black currant, barberry, mahonia, mulberry, flowering plum, rose and also another a fruit and ornamental trees and shrubs under the conditions of East Ukraine. In the Register of plant varieties of the Ukraine 9 cultivar of my breeding are included: 4 - chaenomeles, 3 - hawthorn, 1- cornelian cherry, and 1 - sea buckthorn.

Chaenomeles `Kalif`

(means caliph)

Cultivar is included in the Register of plant varieties of Ukraine since 2001. It's a specimen of hybrid group Californian chaenomeles - Chaenomeles ×californica. The shrub grows about 2 m high, with erect branches, spineless or sometimes armed short lateral branchlets terminated by a spur. The flower is white with pink. The fruit is ellipsoidal, ovoid and globose, yellow, fragrant with hard, acid fresh. Fruit weight is 80-150 g. It ripens in mid September. The fruit is used for making preserves, candied fruit, jelly, jam, juice, syrup, liquor etc.

Chaenomeles `Nika`, `Nikolaj` and `Nina`

(it's people's names).

Cultivars are included in the Register of plant varieties of Ukraine since 2001. They are belong to hybrid group superb chaenomeles - Chaenomeles ×superba. Both parentage and morphological-economic features are the same. Shrubs up to 1 m high, with spreading spineless branches. The flower is orange red. The fruit is gnarly apple-shaped, yellow, fragrant with hard, acid flesh. Fruit weight ranges from 40 to 100 g. It ripens in early September. The fruit is used for making preserves, candied fruit, jelly, juice, syrup, liquor etc.

Hawthorn `Zbigniew` (it's man name)

Cultivar is included in the Register of plant varieties of Ukraine since 2001. It's a specimen of anomalous hawthorn (Arnold hawthorn) – Crataegus ×anomala. The tree is about 4 m in height with cranked branches armed many spines 5-6 cm in length. The fruit is globose, bright crimson, sourish-sweet, excellent flavor. Fruit weight is 3-5 g. Harvest in mid-late August.

Hawthorn `Ljudmyl` (it's derivate of woman name)

Cultivar is included in the Register of plant varieties of Ukraine since 2001. It's a specimen of dotted hawthorn - Crataegus punctata. The tree is about 5 m in height with spineless branches. The fruit is more or less globose, orange red, sour-sweet with light bitter, satisfactory flavor. Fruit weight is 4,5 (10) g. Harvest in late September. The fruits have long period of storage.

Hawthorn `Shamil` (it's man name)

Cultivar is included in the Register of plant varieties of Ukraine since 2001. It's specimen of Pennsylvania hawthorn - Crataegus pennsylvanica. The tree is about 5 m in height with slightly cranked branches armed sparse spines 3-4 cm in length. The fruit is globose, red, sourish sweet, excellent flavor. Fruit weight is 4 (7) g. Harvest in late September.

Hawthorn `Zlat` (means a golden).

Cultivar is endemic Crimean Pojarkova`s hawthorn - Crataegus pojarkovae (C. orientalis var. pojarkovae). The tree is about 3 m in height with spineless branches. The fruit is ribbed globose to conical, yellow golden, sour-sweet, excellent flavor. Fruit weight is 3 (5,5) g. Harvest in mid-late September.

Hawthorn `Mark` (it's man name)

It's specimen of oriental hawthorn - Crataegus orientalis. The tree is about 3 m in height with spineless or armed short spur branches. The fruit is ribbed flat-globose, orange red, sour-sweet, excellent flavor. Fruit weight is 3-3,5 g. Harvest in mid-late September.

Hawthorn `Mao Mao`

(it's name of Chinese woman)

It's specimen of Chinese large-fruited haw - Crataegus pinnatifida var. major. The tree is about 4 m in height with spineless branches. The fruit is globose, vivid red, white verrucose, sour flavor. Fruit weight is 10 g. Harvest in October.

Rowan `Moravska Urozhajna`

(means Moravica high-yielding)

It's specimen of common rowan - Sorbus aucuparia. The tree is 5 m in height. The fruit is globose, red, sourish, not bitter. Fruit weight is 0,8 (1,5) g. Harvest in August.

Service tree `Rumjane Jabluczko`

(means a blush little apple)

It's specimen of service tree - Sorbus domestica. The tree is 6 m in height. The fruit is pyriform, yellow with red, astringent, but sweet if rotten. Fruit weight is 10-15 g. Harvest in October. In the room the fruit begin get overripe and gain a delicious taste.

Sorbaronia `Vseslava`

(it's woman name)

It's specimen of ×Sorbaronia fallax. The shrub is 2 m in height. The fruit is globose, purple black, sourish. Fruit weight is 1,2 (1,8) g. Harvest in late July.

Nashi `Syczovka`

(it's come of man surname)

It's specimen of sand pear - Pyrus pyrifolia. The tree is 4 m in height. The fruit is flate-globose to globose, brown, juicy, sweet. Fruit weight is 100-200 g. Harvest in September.

Serviceberry `Bluemoon`

It's specimen of dwarf serviceberry - Amelanchier spicata. The shrub is 2 m in height. The fruit is globose, dark blue, sweet. Fruit weight is to 1 g. Harvest in late July. The fruit is used for raw eaten and also for making vine, raisins etc.

It's specimen of saskatoon - Amelanchier alnifolia. The shrub is 3 m in height. The fruit is globose, dark blue, sweet. Fruit weight is to 1 g. Harvest in late July. The fruit is used for raw eaten and also for making vine, raisins etc.

Peach `Dokaz`

(means demonstration, evidence)

It's specimen of peach - Prunus persica. Growing as a few stemmed shrubs up to 2,5 m high. The fruit is globose, purple red, juice. Fruit weight is to 100 g. Harvest in late August. Resistant to curl leaf disease Taphrina deformans.

Cornelian cherry `Bylda` (it's man surname)

Cultivar is included in the Register of plant varieties of Ukraine since 2001. It`s large fruited specimen of Cornus mas from Crimea. The tree grows like multi-stemmed tree, the height reaching 3 m. The fruit is pear-shaped, dark red, sweet-sour in taste. The ripe fruits have delicate fresh and pleasant flavor. Fruit weight is 5 (8) g. Harvest in late September.

Bessey cherry `Soneczko`

(means a little sun)

It's a specimen of Western sand cherry - Prunus besseyi. The shrub grow about 1,5 m high. The fruit is globose, yellow, sweet with light astringency. Fruit weight is 3 g. The fruit ripens in last July. It used for processing and eaten fresh.

Manchu cherry `Efimka`

(it's come of man name)

It's a hybrid Prunus tomentosa × Prunus ulmifolia. The shrub grow about 2 m high. The fruit is globose, dark red, sweet. Fruit weight is 2,5 g. The fruit ripens in last Juny.

Manchu cherry `Oksamytova`

(means a velvet).

It's a hybrid Prunus tomentosa × Prunus ulmifolia. The shrub grow about 2 m high. The fruit is globose, claret-colored, firmpulped, sweet. Fruit weight is 1,5-2 g. The fruit ripens in last Juny.

Sea buckthorn `Solodka Zhinka`

(means a sweet woman)

Cultivar is included in the Register of plant varieties of Ukraine since 2000. It`s a seedling of the Siberian variety `Chujskaya` - Hippophae rhamnoides subsp. mongolica. The tree is about 2 m with almost thornless branches. The fruit is ellipsoid-cylindrical, orange, pleasant sourish-sweet flavor. Fruit weight is 0,7 g. Harvest in late July. The fruit is used for fresh dessert and also processed for wonderful beverages and medicinal oil.

Sea buckthorn `Pomaranczeva`

(means an orange).

It`s a hybrid of Hippophae rhamnoides subsp. rhamnoides × subsp. mongolica. The tree is 3 m with little thorn branches. The fruit is ellipsoid-cylindrical, orange. Fruit weight is 1,5 g. Harvest in early September. The fruit is used to make wonderful beverages and medicinal oil. Resistant to wilt disease.

Cherry elaeagnus `Jahidka`

(means a little berry)

It's a specimen of Japanese elaeagnus - Elaeagnus multiflora. The shrub grows up to 1,5 m high. The fruit is oblong, red, sourish-sweet with light astringency. Fruit weight is 1-1,5 g. The fruit ripens in last June.

Black currant `Sorokopudivska`

(it's come of man surname)

It's a specimen of black currant - Ribes nigrum. The shrub is 1 m in height. The fruit is globose, black, good taste. Fruit weight is 1,2 (2,5) g. The fruit ripens in early July.

Barberry `Czervonyj Veleten`

( means a red giant)

It's a specimen of hybrid barberry (Berberis sp.). The shrub growing to 2 m in height. The fruit is oblong, purplish red, sweet-acid. The weight of each fruit is 0,6-0,7 g. The fruit ripens in September. It used to make preserves, jelly, juice, syrup etc.

Barberry `Lichtaryk`

It's a specimen of hybrid barberry (Berberis sp.). The shrub growing to 2 m in height. The fruit is flat-globose, red, sweet-sour. The weight of each fruit is 0,4 (0,8) g. The fruit ripens in September. It used to make preserves, jelly, juice, syrup etc.

Barberry `Tzukerka`

It's a specimen of moneyleaf barberry - Berberis nummularia. The shrub growing to 2 m in height. The fruit is almost globose, yellowish red, sourish-sweet, palatable flavor. The weight of each fruit is 0,2 g. The fruit ripens in September. It used to make preserves, jelly, juice, syrup etc.

Barberry `Beznassinevyj Zhovtyj`

(means an yellow seedless)

It's a specimen of common barberry - Berberis vulgaris. The shrub growing to 2 m in height. The fruit is almost globose, yellowish red, sourish-sweet, palatable flavor. The weight of each fruit is 0,2 g. The fruit ripens in September. It used to make preserves, jelly, juice, syrup etc.

Both cultivars are of holly mahonia - Mahonia aquifolium. The shrub growing to 1 m in height. The fruit is long-ellipsoid to ovoid, bluish, sour. The weight of each fruit is 0,7 (0,9) g. The fruit ripens in August-September and long time was hanged on branches. It can be used to make vine, beverages, syrop etc.

Mulberry `Czornobrova`

(means a black eyebrows)

It's a white mulberry species - Morus alba. The tree is large size up to 6 m in height. The fruits are oblong, black, sourish-sweet, excellent flavor. Fruit weight is 2,5-3,5 g. Harvest several times beginning from mid June.

It's a specimen of flowering plum, or flowering almond - Prunus triloba. The bush to 2 m in height. Blossoms pink double flowers in May, after the typical form.

Rose `Pani Svitlana` (on the right)

(means Miss Svitlana)

This Hybrid Tea Rose (Rosa sp.) is white-flower mutant of salmon-rose `Dolce Vita` (on the left). The shrub with vigorous erect branches. Flowers large, white with light rose shade, fragrant.
